A study involving just 14 men found that taking tongkat ali for 5 weeks helped to improve lean muscle mass and body composition. Not only did the men taking tongkat ali gain more muscle, but they also lost more body fat.

Another study examining the effects of the herbal remedy on 25 older adults discovered that muscular strength drastically improved when the men were taking a supplement containing 400 milligrams of tongkat ali. Contradictory evidence from a third study, however, found that cyclists who took a drink containing tongkat ali saw no benefit at all in terms of strength or exercise performance.

What this means is that there’s still a lot to be discovered about how tongkat ali can affect your muscular strength, muscle growth, energy usage, and body fat loss. However, the early research is promising, offering hope that this herbal supplement could be highly useful for helping you with your fitness and weight loss efforts.

Better Mental and Emotional Health – According to some basic studies, tongkat ali can have a direct positive effect on your mood and emotional wellbeing. Specifically, it can lower your stress hormone levels and combat anxiety. This is a definite necessity for men and women alike!

A study from 1999 found that tongkat ali worked as effectively as an anti-anxiety medication for combatting anxiety. However, the study was conducted on mice, rather than humans. There is very limited research done on humans, but similar results have been noted.

Another study found that taking 200 milligrams of tongkat ali for just one month can help to lower the levels of cortisol in the body. Cortisol is the hormone produced in response to stressful situations, and chronic stress can lead to elevated levels of cortisol—which can, in turn, cause a lot of health problems. Tongkat ali helped to reduce cortisol by 16% more than those who received a placebo, making it a definite ally in the fight against stress. Those who took the supplement also reported less tension, anger, and stress, though how the herbal remedy caused that effect remains to be seen.

As you can see, tongkat ali has the potential to offer some pretty impressive health benefits, but further research is needed to determine all it can do, as well as how safe it is for humans.

The lack of long-term studies into the safety of taking it for more than 3 months means we just don’t know how much of a positive or negative effect it will have on your body for longer periods of time.
