LAVENDER: THE PLANT TO SOOTHE YOUR MIND AND IMPROVE YOUR SLEEP

In this article, we’re going to give you everything you need to help you understand why lavender is such an excellent addition to your life. After all, it’s not just going to make your house smell so much better—it’ll do wonders to calm your anxiety and improve sleep quality.

The truth is that we can ALL use a better night’s sleep. With all the stresses in our busy day, a lot of us spent hours tossing and turning, lying awake in bed, trying to shut off our racing minds.

Anxiety can make sleeping hard, as we spend a lot of time worrying about what we did the previous day and what we’re going to do the following day.

By the time our alarm clocks go off, we feel less than rested, our energy levels not fully restored. Do this day in and day out for weeks, months, and years at a time, and you can start to feel pretty tired.

Unless, of course, you give lavender a try. Wait until you find out how it can help you to sleep better and feel better!

Lavender’s Many Uses

Grown in the Mediterranean mountains and northern Africa, lavender is one of those natural remedies that has been used around the world for thousands of years.

Countless studies have been done into the effects of lavender, and scientists have proven definitive links between this amazing plant and improved health in a number of areas—including, but not limited to:

  • Anxiety

  • Fungal Infections

  • Skin Health

  • Wound Recovery

  • Hair Loss

  • Toothaches

  • Headaches

  • Nausea

  • Acne

Most of us are familiar with lavender as an aromatherapy product, or as an ingredient in our favorite herbal tea. And rightly so! Once you dive into the many benefits of lavender in both oil and tea form, you’ll find it’s truly amazing.

However, for this article, we’re going to focus on just TWO of lavender’s many uses…

The Anti-Anxiety Benefits of Lavender

A study in the International Journal of Psychiatry in Clinical Practice looked at how lavender (in Silexan, a lavender oil product) could help to treat patients with a wide range of anxiety disorders.

According to the data collected in the study, just TWO WEEKS was all the time the patients needed to start seeing improvements. The lavender oil had an anxiolytic—also known as anxiety-reducing—effect on patients that had both subsyndromal and general anxiety.

In another study, lavender oil was used to help calm anxious dental patients. Giving the patients a few whiffs of the lavender scent was enough to calm them down and reduce their anxiety when sitting in the dental chair.

The study makes it clear that lavender doesn’t work to reduce anxiety about future visits, but it does help to calm the patients while they are in the waiting room or dental chair, making it easier for them to endure the current visit.

What does this mean for you?

Simple: a bit of lavender can help to soothe your worries and reduce anxiety now, relaxing your mind and body.

At the end of a long and stressful day—or even in the middle!—a bit of lavender scent or lavender tea will help to put you at ease and decrease your anxieties.

How Lavender Can Help You Sleep Better

This is another of the truly important benefits of lavender!

Did you know that people used to stuff their pillows with lavender flowers so they could smell the scent at night and fall asleep easier? Germans use lavender tea as an officially-approved supplement to reduce not only restlessness but prevent sleep disruptions for a better night’s sleep.

As you can see, lavender is an established sleep aid with a track record literally thousands of years long. Not only can it help to calm anxiety, as we saw above, but it’s useful to reduce restlessness and nervousness.

While you’re smelling that lavender scent, you’ll find that you’re less worried, less prone to tossing and turning, and less anxious about whatever has you stressed. Thanks to the anxiolytic properties of lavender scent and oil, you’ll find yourself a whole lot calmer and in a mood to sleep.
